12mo. Tan cloth binding with blind tooled pattern on front and rear board. Vol. I: xviii, [errata page], 410 p.p.; Vol. II: 439 p.p., [1]. Includes a list of subscribers in Volume One, and previous bookseller label to the head of front pastedown. Stamp of the Scarborough Philosophical & Archaeological Society Museum to front and rear endpapers, and foot of p.p. 113, text unaffected. Corners and spine ends somewhat bumped. Boards faded. Some sporadic foxing and trimming to pages (text unaffected), but otherwise interior clean. In very good condition. Anne Elizabeth Baker [1786- 1861] was a philologist as well as historian of Northamptonshire, in England. She dedicated the glossary to her brother, George Baker [1781-1851] a topographer and fellow Northamptonshire historian, who encouraged her in writing the book. Volume One: A-L; Volume Two: M-Z. The following customs appear in the glossary: April Fools Day, Boxing Day, Fig Sunday, Valentining, Pancake Day, among others. Bookseller Inventory # 001607
