xl+455 pp., 8vo original green cloth blocked attractively in cream & gold, binding sound, 2 colour titlepage, internally text covered by many small author notes, corrections & updatings in his own ink handwriting, and signed at front as a presentation copy [with hand written author ink corrections & notes] to Sir William Wyndham Portal dated Oct 1918; clean of other markings, occasional v.mild foxing in places on edges of some pages, many b&w plates [mostly personalities but also of Westminster setting], with a torn compliments slip from John Ehrman showing the book has come from the famous Broxbourne library. See photos; for instance book gives picture of C17 Speaker Lenthall, then his restored majestic house in Burford and finally a view of London in his day. The Portals of Malshanger in County of Sothampton were distinguished in both railway and bank note development, and second baronet has a plaque in Winchester Cathedral.
